I have been working within the shooting industry for most of my life, I competed in sporting clays from the age of 14 for my County of Gloucestershire which is where I grew up. I was then introduced to Double Trap which is an Olympic Disciple which I dedicated most of my teens and early 20s to gaining a place in the junior GB squad.
Whilst competing I set up a small clay club in my grandparent’s field at their farm at Prescott next to the famous Bugatti Trust and Prescott Speed Hill Climb. This was run one evening a week and soon expanded beyond the 28 day ruling with lessons and party bookings filling the diary. I then decided to move the business to a larger site due to planning restrictions I was facing at the time.
The business constantly grew on the new site from providing private tuition, introducing a sporting agency, following on to hosting large corporate days, simulated game days and in its final year CPSA registered competitions. The site yet again fell short on operating days and came under the same constraints as before restricting the growth of the business through planning regulations and environmental laws! While battling it out with the local council Orston popped up on a Twitter feed we received from Field & Rural Life Media advertising that Orston had been put on the market. Initially we thought it was too far away but after some thought we decided to have a look.
All I can say is from that point forward we never looked back and an extremely excited and hungry to fulfil the untapped potential that Orston Shooting Ground has to offer!
