I have been working within the shooting industry for most of my life, I competed in sporting clays from the age of 14 for my County of Gloucestershire which is where I grew up. I was then introduced to Double Trap which is an Olympic Disciple which I dedicated most of my teens and early 20s to gaining a place in the junior GB squad.

Whilst competing I set up a small clay club in my grandparent’s field at their farm at Prescott next to the famous Bugatti Trust and Prescott Speed Hill Climb. This was run one evening a week and soon expanded beyond the 28 day ruling with lessons and party bookings filling the diary. I then decided to move the business to a larger site due to planning restrictions I was facing at the time.

The business constantly grew on the new site from providing private tuition, introducing a sporting agency, following on to hosting large corporate days, simulated game days and in its final year CPSA registered competitions. The site yet again fell short on operating days and came under the same constraints as before restricting the growth of the business through planning regulations and environmental laws! While battling it out with the local council Orston popped up on a Twitter feed we received from Field & Rural Life Media advertising that Orston had been put on the market. Initially we thought it was too far away but after some thought we decided to have a look.

All I can say is from that point forward we never looked back and an extremely excited and hungry to fulfil the untapped potential that Orston Shooting Ground has to offer!

Emily joined the business in 2014; previously she worked in recruitment and sales. She also ran her own equestrian business providing dressage tuition whilst competing as a young rider for Great Britain in Dressage. Emily still rides and teaches when time allows. She also has helped coach a number of para riders to reach their dreams of competing for their country in dressage.

Emily is the driving force behind Orston’s business development and events and provides a fantastic front of house personality to all our customers whether its hosting a large corporate event or greeting an individual for their very first lesson.

She has great industry knowledge and provides members and all customers a warm welcome each time they visit the shooting grounds.

Steve joined DAN and Emily on the 1st August 2016 as our head instructor and ground manager. Prior to joining Orston Steve had been working at West London Shooting School as an instructor and hosting their simulated game days.

Steve spent all of his early years competing for both England and Great Britain shooting teams firstly in DTL where he traveled the world as a junior to more recently the Olympic discipline of Double Trap where our paths initially crossed. Steve has many World titles to his name including a Double Gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

He brings an unrivalled addition to our team providing an easygoing and fun personality that we feel is a must for teaching newcomers to the sport and a depth of knowledge required to take experienced shots to be winning shots! Steve also helps Dan out on the grounds setting targets and maintaining all the equipment. Steve and Dan have known each other for many years, its great to have such solid foundations within our team.

Tara looks after the kitchen at Orston Shooting Ground; from cooking to serving you will always see her with a smile on her face!

She continues to grow the kitchen from strength to strength and we hope that our menu will continue to grow with your suggestions.

Tara also cooks all buffets for our corporate and charity events. Whether you’re looking for a quick sandwich or sit down 3 course meal Tara has it all covered.

Fran arrived at Orston Shooting Ground in October 2017. She brings with her a wealth of experience in the events industry having graduated from university with an events management degree. Fran also completed placements locally whilst at university and helped create a number of events for top celebrities.

More recently Fran has worked at a local large show ground for the last 4 years where she dealt with large corporate contract events. Fran can be seen behind the desk most days of the week where she assists Emily with the running of events.

Fran is in charge of all social media which is an invaluable tool to our business. She enjoys going to the theatre and makes awesome banana bread.

Russell joined us in the summer of 2017. Being a shooter himself he enjoys being part of all things at the shooting ground.

Russell can be seen sat on a tractor for most of the summer, or soaking wet in the winter, but he always has a smile on his face and enjoys scoring and trapping when required.

In his spare time Russell enjoys running half marathons and keeping fit.
